Youth Action Coalition (YAC) – striving to foster and support youth with the desire to benefit St. Joseph
through Service Learning opportunities.
SATURDAY PROJECTS: Each month, youth have the chance to participate in service learning opportunities. Previous
projects have included: serving meals at the food kitchen, making blankets and lap blankets for kids in the YWCA
shelter and hospice patients, park clean-up’s, carving pumpkins for Pumpkin Mountain and cleaning and organizing
for the AFL-CIO clothes closet. Everyone is welcome to volunteer for these projects. These projects are planned by
the YAC Board. See our Calendar for projects and dates. All projects are led by a trained Youth Alliance leader.
YAC BOARD: Youth Action Coalition (YAC) is the driving force behind youth-centered volunteerism in St. Joseph. Each
year youth pick, plan and implement volunteer service projects that impact important issues and make their community
a better place to live. YAC Board members meet once a month on Saturday Mornings. To get involved, see the YAC
YAC Brochure and fill out an application.
YAC ATTACK Summer Volunteers: St. Joseph Youth Alliance recognizes the need for summer community
service opportunities. Week long projects are available for youth ages 11-18. Youth may earn up to 20 hours per week
volunteering at sites around the St. Joseph community and may attend enrichment and leadership activities provided
by Youth Alliance staff. For more information please see our current projects. Youth must fill out an application
and attend an orientation with a parent/guardian.
Youth Empowerment through Service (YES): YES chapters are autonomous units that perform community
service in partnership with St. Joseph Youth Alliance. YES chapters can be any group of youth that performs community
service as part of the group’s normal routine. YES Chapters DO NOT have to only do service. YES chapters develop,
plan and implement projects based on community needs that the YES chapter has identified. Please see our application
for more information.
